Brazil and Portuguese Language

Did you know that Brazil is currently the UK’s most important trading partner in Latin America?  That might be why so many business owners are wanting to find out more.

If you’re based in the East Midlands, you’re in luck.  UKTI are holding a free half-day briefing seminar, Focus on Brazil, on 21st June 2010 at Yew Tree Lodge in Kegworth. As well as giving you the low-down on the issues involved in trading with Brazil, the event will also cover Olympic and World Cup opportunities and give you the chance to find out about UKTI East Midlands Market Visit to Brazil.

Language note: The national language of Brazil is Portuguese, being spoken by nearly 99.9% of the population.  There are no local dialects but you might like to be aware that the difference between Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese is similar to that between US English and that spoken in the UK and the written language follows national rules of spelling and accentuation.  Which means that, if you’re considering getting anything translated for your trading with Brazil, you should also consider the benefits of ensuring that the translation has also been localised.

Golf boom in China – at home and abroad

golf in chinaSanTranslate has just completed the English to Chinese translation of a brochure for a new golf resort in Yunnan, China for an Australian company expanding there.

Golf has taken off in a big way amongst China’s wealthy population with new links popping up all over China.  Banned until the mid 1980s for being too bourgeois, the sport is now enjoying a boom despite a ban on constructing new courses introduced in 2004.  Whilst it is a game for the wealthy, the addition of golf to the Olympic programme from 2014 has boosted recent growth in interest and the sport is already included in the Chinese National Games.

Golf is also an important attraction for tourists keen to play on world-class courses so we’re expecting to see more demand for translating marketing materials for the golf industry.

Interpretation for business trips, trade visits and delegations

Overseas companies arranging visits to their UK subsidiaries and associates can get so much more out of the visit if they can be certain that everyone will understand what everyone else is saying – so reliable interpreting services are a must.

SanTranslate will shortly be helping out an Italian packaging machinery company on a visit to their Nottingham branch with interpretation services over their two-week visit.  For business meetings and discussions, the right interpreter can make all the difference between a visit that runs smoothly and one that has more than its fair share of frustrations.

Our new strategic alliance means that we can now source more face-to-face  interpreters than ever throughout the UK.
