We provide face to face interpreters in any language pair for:
Ad-hoc interpretation
This is usually provided for those who need to actively engage with each other, in situations where the conversation is not planned, usually between two or three people. Events can include:
- Business trips and delegate visits
- Medical appointments,
- Tribunals or prison visits.
Ad-hoc interpretation is a type of consecutive interpretation where our interpreter waits for a pause before interpreting the sentence. During the assignment, our interpreter will also take notes to keep the interpretation accurate.
Consecutive interpretation
Normally required for:
- formal court hearings,
- business meetings and presentations,
- exhibitions,
- delegate visits.

Simultaneous interpretation
The most common form of interpretation for conference situations. Two interpreters sit in sound-proof booths and take turns to interpret into a microphone whilst delegates listen through their headsets. This form of interpretation also includes whispering directly for one or two people. Simultaneous interpreters usually work into their mother tongue from one or several other languages. If there are only two working languages, the interpreter may need to interpret into and from both languages.
Some less common languages are not yet recognised by UK translation associations, so SanTranslate will make every effort to test and screen interpreters to ensure our highest quality of service. This also applies to languages which have been approved by UK translation associations but in cases where we have no qualified interpreters on board.
Whispering simultaneous interpretation
In whispered interpreting, the interpreter sits or stands next to the target-language audience, usually an individual or a small group whilst whispering a simultaneous interpretation of the matter to hand. This approach does not require equipment but can apply a microphone or headphones by preference. This is used in circumstances where the majority of a group speaks the source language, and a minority (ideally no more than three people) do not speak it.
Situation such as whispering to the judge in court hearing or in business negotiations where the client wishes to know all items discussed.
